Study of the impact of aquifers in absolute gravimetry

During my internship search master I studied the impact of the aquifers in absolute gravimetry. This internship was supervised by the Professor Nicolas Florsch.

The level variations of aquifers changes locally the value of gravity. This variation, predicted well by theory, is quantifiable by using absolute gravimeters. During this research, I developed among others a numerical modeling program, called Gravmap, which calculates the temporal variations of gravity due to a temporally variable piezometric surface. Variations of gravity thus determined were compared with the gravity values measured at the absolute gravimeter near Strasbourg.

This program is adaptable to all other movements of fluids, like oil or liquid methane.

I made a publication of the research at the Congress of the EGU in May 2004:

Renaud K., 2004. Impact of aquifer variation on absolute gravimetry. Geophysical Research Abstracts, Vol. 6, 07633.
